G'man Signed and Set for Europe for the 2011 IDM
For two years the Australian Gareth Jones rode for the Dutch Team RT Motorsport. But only one day after his last working day the 23 year old is striking a new path. "After the extremely positive test on Monday after the IDM-race at Hockenheim, Gareth Jones has signed a contract with the Team Wilbers Witec-BMW, before his off-season-break at the Australian Goldcoast", crew chief Benny Wilbers tells us.
"Gareth Jones was very taken with the stage of development of our bike", Wilbers continues, "and was putting in very fast laps immediately. He was told to take it easy, because the bike was yet sold, but that didn`t seem to impress him very much, and he showed the team that he has the same goal for 2011 that we have - to finish the season in the top 5."
The first tests are planned for December. But Jones will not be alone in his team. Two more riders shall be engaged. The team negotiates (amongst others) with Freddy Parpunen, Lucas de Carolis, Filip Altendorfer and Irek Sikora."
“I’m very excited to be sorted and have something to come back to when the 2011 season starts in Europe. Each year has been a progression and It’s something I intend to make the very most of. My racing career really started when I came to NZ to race for Bernard Racing back at the end of 2007. To be going back to Europe and racing for a 4th season is a real credit to the Bernard’s encouragement and faith in me as a rider a few years ago. I really wanted to come back to NZ this year because I've had some of the closest racing and the best times of my career with the Bernard’s. Up until I got the news that I was going to continue in Europe for 2011, I was planning with Brian to return to NZ to race the 2011 NZ series, but unfortunately with huge testing commitments in Spain during the early part of the year, I am unable to be a part of the series this year. I want to thank the Bernard Racing Team for their constant support and I wish them all the best in their return to racing this season”.
